Cook Up Some Warm Memories

Cooking with kids can be a rich, rewarding experience. Not only are you teaching them a life skill, you're also cooking up many warm memories! Here are some new and exciting ways to make cooking a 'deliciously' fun learning experience.

Chef's Cooking Parties

Make learning to cook a big gala event with a 'little chef's' cooking party! This could be a birthday celebration, sleepover or simply a way to get kids cooking together. Begin the festivities by presenting each little chef with their very own apron and chef's hat! Let them personalize their new 'kitchen attire' with fabric markers.

The Pizza Party

What tween or teen wouldn't love a pizza party! A few weeks before the big day send out your inviations. For some really fun personalized invitations or a fun banner click on the pictures below.

Next, Turn your kitchen into a 'pizzeria extraordinaire' with red and white checkered table cloths covering card tables, unlit candles in jars, and menus on poster board on the walls. Whether you buy the dough or make your own, have the young chefs don their aprons and hats and teach them how to roll, pull and toss the dough in expert pizzeria fashion! A little flour on the cheeks makes for an excellent photo opportunity as they work their dough. If you're really brave let them work in pairs and toss their dough back and forth to each other! Imagine the giggles! On a separate table have pizza sauce, grated cheese and various fixings to top the pizzas. Next it's time to pop the pizzas in the oven and play a few party games.

Crazy Cupcake Party

Have an uproariously good time with a Crazy Cupcake Party! You can either pre-bake the cupcakes or if the children are a little older they can bake their 'cakes' from scratch! The fun really begins with the decorating station. Have a separate card table set up with all kinds of gooey icings, sprinkles, marshmallows, chocolate chips and small candies like licorice strings, jelly beans, etc. Each little chef gets to decorate their mini cake as they'd like! Some fun ideas:

Ladybug Cupcakes
Frog Cupcakes
Bunch of Flowers Cupcakes

Pupcakes

A host of fun and adventurous ideas on throwing the perfect cooking party, including dinner themes can be found at Little Chefs Cooking Party.

Monthly Cooking Lessons

Have a monthly cooking lesson with your child/children where you feature a special 'menu of the month.' You could follow a theme that goes with the month. Summmer Sugar Cookies and Nannaberry Smoothies make a cool, tasty treat for the dog days of summer. If you'd like a more structured approach Kid's Cooking Lessons Curriculum may be the right choice for you and your child.

To mark the beginning of a wonderful tradition present your child with their very own personalized cookbook! Use a photo album, sketch pad, scrapbook or notebook with blank pages. This allows them to decorate their book with markers, stickers, etc. Take plenty of pictures as each delicacy is being prepared, making sure to get a picture of your child proudly holding the finished masterpiece! Give your child a set of pictures and the recipe to add to their books. They then can decorate each two page spread with pictures, the recipe and any notes, drawings or designs they'd like to add. Their new 'memory' cookbook will probably be the most treasured cookbook they'll ever own!
